ASTMH : Tafenoquine and ACTs – Evidence from Indonesia and Cambodia

At the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH) conference held from November 13 to 17, 2024, Prof. Dr. Ayodhia P. Pasaribu, M.Ked(Ped), Sp.A(K), Ph.D (CTM), presented the use of tafenoquine and Artemisinin-based Combination Therapies (ACTs) in the treatment and prevention of malaria in Southeast Asia, particularly in Indonesia and Cambodia.


Experts attending the conference highlighted the importance of continuous monitoring of drug effectiveness, especially in areas with high transmission rates and the potential for the development of drug resistance. The findings presented emphasized the significant progress made in combating malaria in Southeast Asia and underscored the critical role of innovative therapies, such as tafenoquine, in achieving malaria elimination goals.
The event also provided a platform for international collaboration, with experts discussing strategies to optimize malaria treatment protocols and accelerate progress toward malaria elimination in the region.
