Inauguration of the Professorship Prof. dr. Ayodhia P Pasaribu, M.Ked(Ped), Sp.A(K), Ph.D (CTM)

On Tuesday, August 15, 2023 Prof. dr. Ayodhia P Pasaribu, M.Ked (Ped), Sp.A (K), Ph.D (CTM) was confirmed as a professor at the Universitas Sumatera Utara. The event was attended by more than 500 guests from the university academic community and outside. The event was also attended by Professor Nicholas P J Day from Oxford University, Professor Ric Price from Menzies School of Health Research, professor Watcharee Arunsodsai from Mahidol University.

In her speech entitled “High-Dose Primaquine as a Treatment Strategy for Vivax Malaria to Achieve Malaria Elimination in 2030”, she said that as many as 5.4 million cases of malaria in Southeast Asia in 2021 which is increasing the number of deaths because the handling is disrupted due to COVID-19. Now that the Covid-19 outbreak has subsided, it is expected that high doses of primaquine for 7 days can reduce the risk of recurrence by 87%. This has been proven in IMPROV research and is still being developed so that later it can be implemented in the community.

She also thanked her family and research colleagues around the world. The experience of collaborative research that she has done for more than 2 decades has given her a lot of experience and skills so that she can publish international publications and become a good lecturer.
