EFFORT is a study which is evaluating the effectiviness of novel approaches to radical cure with tafenaquine and primaquine. This study is located in one of the health centers in Batubara, North Sumatra. Previously, the core team and staff of the health center (dr.Yulita, dr. Rahmat, dr. Yogi, dr. Melissa, Umi, Salmi and others) attended training on January 10, 2022 which was held online via Zoom with the Menzies team. The training was also attended by Prof.Ayodhia P Pasaribu, M.Ked (Ped), Sp.A (K), Ph.D (CTM) as Site Principal Investigator for Medan. After attending training and making careful preparations, on March 7, 20222 they started recruiting participants who were malaria patients at the Health Center. At the start of the study, the EFFORT team successfully recruited 3 patients. Previously, the team had screened the patients to ascertain whether they met the inclusion criteria or not.
After the patient was declared eligible by the doctor and signed an informed concern, laboratory examinations were carried out. Next, patients were given a number of tafenaquine and primaquine drugs. Then the patients will be given a schedule for the next examination visit. This is done for 6 months for each patient. As the core team, Dr. Yulita hopes that this study can soon meet the target of 150 patients.
