Closing of the SCOPE Study at Tanjung Leidong Primary Health Center

North Labuhanbatu — (December 23, 2025) The SCOPE Study (Short Course Primaquine for the Radical Cure of Plasmodium vivax) was formally concluded at Tanjung Leidong Primary Health Center. The closing event was attended by dr. Dhona Sihotang, M.Ked (Ped), Sp.A, Regent of North Labuhanbatu, along with representatives from the North Labuhanbatu District Health Office and the Head of Tanjung Leidong Subdistrict.

The event served as an opportunity to recognize the strong partnership among the research team, local authorities, healthcare professionals, and community members who supported the study throughout its entire implementation. The SCOPE study has played an important role in strengthening malaria control efforts, particularly by improving the delivery of radical treatment for Plasmodium vivax in the area.

The application of high-dose primaquine under the SCOPE program in the Kualuh Leidong region has demonstrated a substantial impact, achieving a 64 percent reduction in P. vivax malaria cases. Furthermore, the initiative has significantly enhanced the capacity of primary healthcare personnel, enabling them to independently provide appropriate malaria management and maintain more accurate, systematic, and well-organized case documentation and reporting.

During the event, the research team expressed their sincere appreciation to the local community and all stakeholders for their continuous support and active involvement from the early stages of the study through its completion. Effective cross-sector collaboration was recognized as a key factor behind the successful implementation of the program.

Looking ahead, it is expected that the achievements and lessons derived from the SCOPE study will be sustained and further expanded, allowing North Labuhanbatu District to contribute meaningfully to the national goal of malaria elimination.
